Olivia: Zajímavé! A v USA?

Ryan: Tam mohou oddávat i soudci. Páry si často vybírají místa, která jsou pro ně speciální, nemusí to být nutně kostel.

Olivia: Dobře, a teď ta nejdůležitější otázka... kdo to všechno platí?

Ryan: Tradičně to byla rodina nevěsty. Dnes si ale náklady většinou dělí pár společně. A není to levné!

Olivia: Tomu věřím. A co dary? Slyšela jsem o 'svatebních seznamech'.

Ryan: Přesně. V USA si páry v obchodě vytvoří seznam darů, které by si přály. Ve Velké Británii je to podobné, říká se tomu 'bride's book'.

Olivia: To je vlastně geniální. Žádné tři toustovače.

Ryan: Přesně tak. Je to velmi praktické. Zabraňuje to duplicitním dárkům.

Olivia: Vím, že existují i nějaké oslavy před samotnou svatbou. Co je to 'stag party'?

Ryan: To je rozlučka se svobodou pro ženicha, tedy 'groom'. Pořádají ji jeho přátelé a vtipkují o tom, jak ztratí svou svobodu.

Olivia: A nevěsta má taky něco takového?

Ryan: Ano, pro nevěstu se pořádá 'hen party', v USA známá jako 'bachelorette party'. Obvykle je o něco klidnější.

Olivia: 'Klidnější' je asi to klíčové slovo. Takže, když si to shrneme, moderní svatby jsou směsicí starých tradic a nových zvyků.

Ryan: It really is. And it starts with the wedding party. You have the groom's best man and ushers, and the bride's maid of honour and bridesmaids.

Olivia: So the maid of honour is her closest friend, right?

Ryan: Exactly. Or matron of honour if she's married. They’re like the bride and groom’s support team for the big day.

Olivia: Let’s talk about the classic "white wedding." It's all about the bride's long white dress and veil.

Ryan: That’s the centerpiece. And don’t forget the tradition of wearing 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue' for good luck.

Olivia: Oh, I love that one! What about the men?

Ryan: They might wear morning dress, which includes a long-tailed jacket and a top hat! Or a tuxedo in the US.

Olivia: A top hat! Sounds very formal.

Ryan: It definitely can be.

Olivia: Okay, so everyone's dressed. What happens at the actual ceremony?

Ryan: Well, the bride traditionally arrives a few minutes late with her father, who "gives her away."

Olivia: Right. Though some people find that tradition a bit old-fashioned now.

Ryan: True. Then come the vows, where they promise to support each other. The groom places a ring on her finger, and sometimes she gives him one too.

Olivia: And after they sign the register, they're officially married! Then guests throw confetti or rice for good luck.

Ryan: After the ceremony, it's time for the reception! This is the big party, often at a hotel.

Olivia: And there are speeches, right? From the best man and others?

Ryan: Yep! Speeches, a special multi-tiered wedding cake that the couple cuts together, and the famous bouquet toss.

Olivia: Where the woman who catches it is supposedly next to get married.

Ryan: That’s the belief! Then the newlyweds leave for their honeymoon in a car decorated with 'just married' and noisy tin cans tied to the back.

Olivia: What a whirlwind! So, from the wedding party and formal attire to the ceremony vows and reception traditions like the cake and bouquet toss, it's a day full of symbolism.
