Emma: That's a classic, and frustrating, problem, Ryan. The reason for those runs and sags is usually simple: too much paint is being applied. The film is just too thick.

Ryan: So less is more. What about mixing? I hear there's a right and wrong way with epoxy paints.

Emma: Absolutely! Here's a key rule: always add the converter to the resin. Never the other way around. Think of it like making chocolate milk—you add the syrup to the milk, not the other way around for the best mix.

Ryan: Okay, that makes sense.

Emma: Now, under that paint, you have some amazing materials. The main ones used to reinforce aircraft structures are fiberglass, Kevlar, and graphite.

Ryan: And inside those structures, what are the common core materials?

Emma: You'll mostly find foam and honeycomb. And if you need to inspect that honeycomb for hidden damage, ultrasonic inspection is the best method.

Ryan: Let's talk about fabric finishes. What happens if you spray dope over an enamel surface?

Emma: It's a disaster. The thinner in the dope will penetrate the enamel and cause it to swell. That's also why you must sand the finish off fiberglass parts; paint remover can soften the resin itself.

Ryan: Good to know. And what primers are common?

Emma: Three big ones are zinc chromate, wash primer, and epoxy primer.

Ryan: One last safety tip. Sweeping a paint room with dried dope overspray?

Emma: You have to wet the floor with water first. Sweeping it dry can create static electricity... and a huge fire risk. No one wants that!
